BCLP Hosts Investing in U.S. Distressed Debt and Near-Distressed U.S. Commercial Real Estate Loans Roundtable - A Discussion for Israeli & Foreign Investors
On November 10, 2020, BCLP hosted a one-hour webinar moderated by restructuring partner Jason DeJonker, along with panelists Ran Eliasaf of Northwind Group, Amber Sefert of Trimont Real Estate Advisors, Daniel Siegel of The Ardent Companies, and Robert Unell of Ankura Consulting Group in a discussion on distressed debt and near-distressed commercial real estate property and loans in the United States for Israeli and foreign investors and opportunities to invest and participate in transactions involving such property and loans.
Topics focused on acquiring, restructuring, and addressing distressed commercial real estate properties and loans within today's financial and COVID-19 environment, including which asset classes have been the most affected by COVID-19 (and what assets are likely to be impacted in the near future), how the loan workout process works in the United States (depending on the type of debt and lender), how to identify and deal with the relevant parties, what opportunities exist to acquire debt (and which lenders are more interested now in selling distressed and near-distressed loans and real properties), what limitations exist on obtaining new loans in the current (and expected future) market, and how to negotiate with senior and CMBS lenders, mezzanine lenders, preferred equity holders, and "hard money" lenders in distressed situations.
