Kaye Explains Key Considerations Following Extension of UK Job Retention Scheme for ‘People Management’

London Senior Associate Mark Kaye outlined the key considerations for employers following the UK government’s announcement of the extension of the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) in an article first published Nov. 10 for People Management. The UK government already had extended the CJRS until Dec. 2 but recently announced a further extension until March 31, 2021. Kaye outlined the key terms of the CJRS, explained how the scheme would work in practice and outlined next steps for employers. “Employers will have to make swift assessments and projections before deciding whether to furlough staff, particularly those who are currently subject to redundancy consultation,” he explained. In addition, they will need to consider whether it is feasible to re-employ dismissed workers in order to furlough them. These are difficult and finely balanced decisions for HR professionals and businesses.”
