London Corporate Insurance Partner Geraldine (Gerry) Quirk has been awarded the Services to Legacy Award by the Insurance and Reinsurance Legacy Association (IRLA) at their annual conference in Brighton on June 11. Quirk is one of only two private practice lawyers to have ever won the award and is the first woman to have been recognized in the award’s 13-year history.
Quirk is recognized for her contribution to development and enhancement of the insurance legacy sector, and is recognized by market practitioners for her positive impact on the sector. According to IRLA, “This award is not about contribution to the profits or prestige of a particular employer, but rather about a contribution to the sector as a whole, for example, through innovation, improving professionalism, or acting as an ambassador to the wider business community.”
Quirk has 25 years’ experience in providing regulatory and restructuring advice to clients in the insurance market, including non-life and life insurers and reinsurers, brokers and intermediaries, and legacy entities. She has extensive experience advising on business transfers under Part VII of FSMA in all sectors of the industry both within the UK and on a cross-border basis. She has advised on more than 20 Part VII transfers (including reinsurance arrangements entered into prior to the transfer), involving around 45 insurers, including the first transfer out of Lloyd's, and the first transfer for a Gibraltar insurer. Her clients include many of the leading insurers in the UK and internationally and almost all of the major players in the legacy sector.
IRLA is the UK market body for insurance and reinsurance legacy management professionals. IRLA is recognized as the voice of the legacy management sector by a wide range of government and market bodies.
