• A solicitor advocate and international arbitration counsel, Gavin heads the firm’s Litigation & Corporate Risk team in Singapore.
  • Gavin acts as counsel on disputes in a broad range of industry sectors including energy, power, telecommunications, technology, infrastructure, construction and international trade.
  • He has represented clients in arbitrations conducted under ICC, LCIA, SCC, SIAC, TOMAC and pure ad hoc arbitration rules, with arbitral seats in Asia and Europe.
  • Gavin spent ten years working in Tokyo acting for a range of Japanese and international clients, including a two-year secondment to a Japanese trading company.
  • He relocated to SE Asia in 2014, since when he has handled disputes involving Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar and Indonesia.
  • He sits as an arbitrator and is a panel member for SIAC, the Kuala Lumpur Regional Arbitration Centre, the Thai Arbitration Institute and THAC.
  • Gavin also assists clients on corporate crime and risk issues (particularly with regard to the FCPA and UK Bribery Act), as well as internal investigations and employment issues (termination, breach of fiduciary duties, restrictive covenant enforcement and settlement negotiations).

  • ICC arbitration - Japanese technology company as counsel in ICC Geneva arbitration proceedings worth USD150 million arising out of a contract for the construction and delivery of a submarine telecommunications cable system across the Indian Ocean and into the Red Sea.
  • SIAC arbitration - Indonesia oil and gas operator as counsel in SIAC arbitration proceedings regarding claims for USD218 million arising out of a Joint Operating Agreement for an oil and gas development block in Sumatra.
  • London & TOMAC arbitration - Japanese trading company in a series of London ad hoc arbitrations and parallel TOMAC arbitrations arising out of a series of commercial bulk carrier shipbuilding contracts.
  • Litigation management - Hong Kong-based hedge fund on a Bangkok Southern District Court claim against a leading Thai retail conglomerate arising out of a Mandatory Takeover Offer in respect of a company listed on the Thai Stock Exchange.
  • Corporate crime - Japanese trading company: various anti-corruption due diligence exercises in respect of potential transactional partners for projects in Indonesia, Myanmar and Africa.
  • Investigations - US hedge fund: investigation into unauthorised and potentially fraudulent investments by its fund manager in Japan.
  • Employment - assisting on the contentious dismissal of senior management of a medical supply company and negotiating termination packages.
