Marius is a Partner in the Energy, Environment and Infrastructure team. Based in Jakarta, he heads the Indonesia practice.

Marius has over 15 years’ experience acting on a broad range of projects and other transactional matters in the Asia Pacific region. He is recognised as a leading individual in Chambers Asia Pacific and IFLR1000.

Marius is currently the firm’s resident partner in Indonesia, on secondment as a Foreign Legal Consultant to IAB&F. Recent experience includes advising on a range of structuring, project development, merger and acquisition and financing mandates across the oil and gas, LNG, renewables (including geothermal, rooftop solar and offshore wind), mining and infrastructure sectors.

Previously based in Singapore for many years, Marius is one of a small number of foreign lawyers who have been called to the Singapore Bar. Outside of work, he maintains a number of pro-bono commitments and charitable directorships in both Singapore and Jakarta. He is currently Chair of the Built Environment Committee of the British Chamber of Commerce in Singapore.

Representative Experience

  • Energy - Advising on various geothermal, hydro and solar matters in Indonesia and the Philippines.
  • Energy - Acted for an international oil and gas company on a US$300m project financing of oil storage facilities at the Port of Fujairah.
  • Projects - Acted for a Seychelles sponsor and entities on US$315m and US$60m credit facilities provided by an Indian transport and energy conglomerate, and ICICI Bank.
  • Mining - Advised Candice Investments on the project financing of coal mining infrastructure including ports, dual conveyors, coal crushers and other assets with a combined value of over US$300m.
  • Power - Advised Tata Power Company Limited on long term contracts of affreightment, ship finance and operational matters relating to the 4,000 mw Mundra Ultra Mega Power Project.
  • Mining - Advising Borneo Lumbung Energy & Metal on various contract mining and project development arrangements.
  • Mining - Advising PT Bumi Resources Tbk on the sale of 30% of PT Kaltim Prima Coal and PT Arutmin Indonesia to Tata Power.
  • Oil and Gas - Acted on the restructuring of oil and gas assets and related debt with a value of $2bn located in New Zealand and offshore.
  • Mining - Advising a Mongolian developer on prepaid coal arrangements with a multinational aluminium company headquartered in Beijing, People's Republic of China. Acted for the lender in relation to a corporate loan and related equity conversion rights over Mongolian entities holding certain coal, gold and coal bed methane exploration licences.
  • Law Reform - Advising the Mongolian government on legislative reform, sponsored by the USAID.
  • Mining - Advising a Mongolian developer on its 300 mw mine mouth coal-fired power project in Mongolia. This involved developing and financing facilities to power some of the massive infrastructure needed to develop and operate the mine as well as supply power into the Mongolia grid.
