Article on Class Actions against Chinese Government Highlighted by ‘Law360’
A guest column authored by Los Angeles Partner Robert Boone and Associate Simren Gill was featured July 30 by Law360 in an article focused on a Republican-led bill that would let American individuals, companies and states sue China over the health and economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. The Civil Justice for Victims of China-Originated Viral Infections Diseases Act would amend the Foreign Sovereign Immunity Act, which blocks lawsuits against other countries in U.S. courts. “In the current environment, these lawsuits do, at first blush, have some appeal as a means to redress significant losses being suffered by those adversely affected by COVID-19,” Boone and Gill wrote. “Looking deeper, class plaintiffs face tough odds with little likelihood of recovery.” Their original guest column in Law360can be read here.
