New York Senior Tax Consultant Professor Alan Appel presented at the 78th Institute on Federal Taxation, Oct. 21 in New York City, and will present on Nov. 11 in San Francisco. The event is designed to provide updates, advice and analysis of the latest trends and developments from leaders in the taxation field.

Appel will participate on a panel addressing structuring considerations for foreign persons investing in U.S. real estate, focusing on the taxation of operating income and gains from dispositions of U.S. real property interests.

As a senior tax consultant at Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, Appel specializes in international and domestic tax planning involving taxation of mergers and acquisitions, partnerships, joint ventures, limited liability companies and tax controversy matters. Appel is also a professor of law and the director of the International Tax Program at New York Law School. He teaches courses in international taxation, individual taxation, corporate taxation and commercial law.
