We are deeply saddened and concerned by this week’s tragic Atlanta-area shootings, where we are again reminded of the importance of confronting intolerance, hate, and dangerous behaviors in this country. While the motivation behind this incident remains unclear, the fact that six victims were women of Asian descent is part of a larger national pattern of violence against Asian Americans.

We condemn any such hate, racism, or violence, and we are proud to stand with our Asian American colleagues at BCLP to overcome such disturbing divisiveness.

Our Firm is also fortunate to be playing a central role in how our industry responds, where Atlanta Counsel Angela Hsu has been one of the leading voices in her role as president of the Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar Association:

“As facts unfold, we are reminded that acts of hate against Asian Americans have dramatically increased since the beginning of the Coronavirus pandemic, but this is not just an Asian American issue, nor is it only limited to the pandemic.  When mass rampage shootings occur and the victims are people of color, we far too often fail to see these acts as terrorism and hate crimes.  This is unacceptable and must stop.  It is critical that justice is served regardless of the color or nationality of the victim.  These shootings have shaken us as a community, and we demand a swift and thorough investigation, full transparency and resources for these victims and for prevention.”

–      Angela Hsu on behalf of the Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar Association, in conjunction with the Korean American Bar Association of Georgia, and the South Asian Bar Association of Georgia

Angela’s leadership is simply the latest example of our Firm’s long history of service and commitment to the Asian American legal community through organizations like the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association. Led by these efforts, please join us in supporting all our Asian American colleagues during these difficult times.

As we look ahead, we are also exploring how best to support the Asian American community in Atlanta and throughout the country in light of this recent violence, including but not limited to pro bono legal assistance.
