The global law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP (BCLP) today announced that Jonathan Retsky has joined the firm as a partner and deputy leader of the Intellectual Property Practice Group. Retsky will reside in the firm’s Chicago office and joins from Winston & Strawn.
Retsky brings more than 30 years of intellectual property litigation experience handling all forms of patent, trademark, copyright and trade secret cases, in both bench and jury trials, Markman hearings, and all aspects of pre-trial discovery and motion practice. He also has experience in appellate briefing and has argued cases before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
“I am delighted to be joining BCLP and excited about the opportunity to work across the firm’s global platform and collaborate with colleagues around the world,” he said.
With a background in electrical engineering, Retsky also has experience in patenting computer software and hardware, semiconductors, telecommunications equipment, consumer electronics and business methods, as well as licensing negotiations and agreements, counseling for technology transfer and due diligence, and providing opinions regarding patent non-infringement and invalidity.
Previously, Retsky served as corporate vice president and director of patent operations at Motorola Inc., where he oversaw Motorola’s worldwide patent preparation, prosecution and maintenance activities. He also oversaw Motorola’s defensive IP litigation and pre-litigation matters.
“We look forward to welcoming Jonathan to our firm,” said IP Practice Group Co-Leader Dan Crowe. “He brings added strength to our growing IP practice, enhancing our team in Chicago and across the U.S., and brings expanded capabilities to clients firmwide.” Global Litigation Department Managing Partner Christine Cesare added, “Jonathan’s extensive litigation experience coupled with his proven leadership is a perfect match for us – he will add high performance to a highly performing practice group.”
