The global law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP (BCLP) today announced that legal innovator Angie Ligon has joined the firm. She joins the firm’s Cantilever consulting team as director of legal operations. Ligon will be based in the firm’s Boulder, Colo., office and will have responsibility for supporting clients across the US.
Ligon was previously the director of contract solutions at Elevate, where she helped clients introduce standardized procedures, playbooks and templates, and use process improvement and project management techniques to drive efficiencies. She also was responsible for evaluating, developing and customizing technologies, including artificial intelligence, to support contract review.
In her new role, Ligon will work directly with in-house legal teams, helping them use a combination of process improvement, new technology, and data and analytics to improve efficiency and effectiveness and better manage risk. She will work closely with Cantilever’s global team of highly qualified process engineers, data scientists and technologists. She also will utilize Cantilever’s proprietary workflow platform where appropriate, as well as other leading technology solutions.
Ligon said: “It is a very exciting time to be working in legal innovation. Technology is developing so rapidly and, at the same time, new process improvement and data analytics techniques are transforming the practice of law. So it is a great time to be helping GCs and in-house attorneys take advantage of these huge new opportunities to deliver greater efficiencies and drive the effectiveness of their teams.
“BCLP and Cantilever are extremely well placed to deliver for clients. The firm has always been at the forefront of legal innovation and has decades of experience as a leader in the market. During that time, it has demonstrated an amazing track record of not only implementing new technology effectively but also of defining entirely new ways of working. It is continuing to push the boundaries and, as a result, there’s no better place to be working in a legal operations capacity.”
Chris Emerson, the chief of legal operations solutions and co-founder of Cantilever, said: “Angie is highly regarded in the legal operations space and comes to us with a fantastic record of success behind her. We’re delighted that she has joined us and we look forward to working with her to deliver the solutions that we know our clients need.”
