BCLP Taps Former Assistant US Attorney Andrey Spektor to Bolster BCLP Litigation & Investigations Group
International law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) today announced that former federal prosecutor Andrey Spektor has joined the firm as a partner. While based in BCLP’s New York office, he will practice as a member of the global Litigation & Investigations Department.
As an assistant United States attorney in the Eastern District of New York for nearly seven years, Spektor conducted nine jury trials proving allegations of bribery, tax fraud, wire fraud, making false statements, and racketeering. He also argued 15 appeals before the Second Circuit covering issues of first impression and successfully briefed many others. He led dozens of grand jury proceedings and transnational investigations, including into companies and individuals suspected of committing securities and investment fraud, bank fraud, cybercrimes, export control law breaches, kickbacks, accounting fraud, money laundering, obstruction of justice and heath care fraud. He also has experience with the False Claims Act and investigations related to qui tam and whistleblower complaints.
Spektor’s FCPA matters have spanned the globe, from South America to Europe. He has worked on multimillion dollar corporate resolutions, including with one of the world’s largest energy trading firms. He also co-led groundbreaking cryptocurrency cases, obtaining the first-ever judicial opinion in a federal criminal case that cryptocurrencies could be regulated by securities law. He has deep experience within the areas of professional ethics, attorney-client privilege, and the criminal and civil liability of professionals, having handled prosecutions and jury trials of numerous white-collar professionals. In these and other investigations, he collaborated with the SEC, the New York Grievance Committee, the IRS, the U.S. State Department, the Commerce Department, local district attorney offices and various Justice Department components, including the Fraud Section, the Money Laundering and Asset Recovery Section, and the Consumer Protection Branch.
Prior to his appointment as a federal prosecutor, Spektor was a commercial and appellate litigator at another major international law firm. He also served as a judicial law clerk at the federal trial and appellate levels.
“Andrey’s dynamic experience as a litigator will be a huge asset to our clients and our firm overall,” said Global Department Leader of Litigation & Investigations Lee Marshall. “Our Litigation & Investigations Department is an important component in our newly focused growth strategy, and we are excited to welcome Andrey to the firm.”
Spektor has been recognized with four awards for his investigations and trials as a federal prosecutor – twice earning the Federal Prosecutor of the Year award and twice receiving the True American Hero award. In addition, his cases have been featured in major news publications and media outlets, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Bloomberg, CNN and NBC News. Spektor has published widely on topics such as class-action certifications, constitutional law and legal writing. He is a native Russian speaker with experience interviewing witnesses in Russian.
“I look forward to joining BCLP’s Litigation and Investigations Team,” Spektor said. “The firm’s global platform, long-term growth strategy and vision for the future were key differentiators for me. This is an exciting time to be at BCLP and I look forward to this opportunity.”
