The global law firm Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) today announced that Lisa Mayhew and Steven Baumer will serve as Co-Chairs of the firm, with their four-year term beginning on Jan. 1, 2020. Mayhew currently serves as Co-Chair of the firm along with Therese Pritchard. Baumer will succeed Pritchard, who served as Chair of legacy firm Bryan Cave since Oct. 1, 2014, and then as Co-Chair of BCLP since April 3, 2018.
“I am honored to have been elected by my Partners to serve another term as Co-Chair,” Mayhew said. “Our firm is poised to build on our early success and continue to deliver new and better solutions to clients globally.”
Under Mayhew and Pritchard’s leadership, they most notably steered the merger of Bryan Cave and Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), which was finalized April 3, 2018. The combination brought together two organizations widely recognized for their innovative approaches to client service into one global, fully financially integrated law firm. The merger also marked the first time a global law firm was headed by female Co-Chairs. Pritchard was not eligible to run for another term.
“This is an exciting time for the firm as we continue to move forward as a global, fully integrated firm,” Pritchard said. “We’ve accomplished a lot in the last few years, and I am extremely proud to be turning over the role of Co-Chair to one of the most skilled and respected lawyers in our Partnership.”
Ranked as a “leading individual” in employment law for a number of years by legal directory Legal 500, Mayhew is known for successfully defending employers in large and complex employment disputes. Her work has typically been at boardroom level, for example acting on executive hires and severances, discrimination proceedings, cases of whistleblowing, or on major corporate transformation initiatives. Mayhew’s clients have included eight of the world’s largest banks plus other FTSE-level or large private companies in sectors such as retail and energy. Before serving as Co-Chair of BCLP, she was the Managing Partner for legacy firm BLP.
Formerly leader of legacy Bryan Cave’s global Transactions Practice, Baumer is based in the St. Louis office. He regularly advises clients involved in complex business transactions, specializing in mergers and acquisitions. Baumer has deep experience with clients in a number of industries, including agriculture, manufacturing, health care, technology, life sciences, telecommunications, private equity and consumer goods. Among other leadership duties, Baumer is a member of the firm’s Board and Diversity & Inclusivity Advisory Board.
“I have been with our firm since 1996 and have seen the growth and development that has continued to set us apart in the minds of our clients,” Baumer said. “With the merger and our stronger, global platform, I know there is even more we can accomplish as a firm to service our clients, and I am excited to be a part of that.”
At the end of her current term as Co-Chair, Pritchard will return to practice, combining her experience in regulatory enforcement and investigations with her experience chairing the Board of the firm to conduct investigations on behalf of public companies and their boards.
