Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner successfully represents Tyumen Plywood Plant former owner and managing director Almira Karimova in a dispute with SVEZA

July 27, 2020

Led by Partners Elena Trusova and Anton Panchenkov, the team of Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner, formerly Goltsblat BLP in Russia: Senior Associate Marina Ivanova, Counsel Rimma Malinskaya and Junior Associate Daria Sergeeva has successfully represented Tyumen Plywood Plant’s former owner and managing director Almira Karimova in a dispute launched by SVEZA LLC against her based on a warranty claim under the sale and purchase agreement for Tyumen Plywood Plant. SVEZA claimed breach of warranty related to non-compliance with the sanitary and anti-epidemic laws.

The BCLP lawyers developed and presented a strong legal position and, thanks largely to their proactive efforts, the parties finally entered into a settlement agreement. The settlement was made by the sixth appeal hearing on mutually acceptable terms that differed considerably from the original claim.

The number of appeal hearings, which was unusually large for Russian court practice, demonstrates the uncompromising and complex nature of the dispute. This mandate helped further shape BCLP’s portfolio of high-profile litigations between the M&A parties.
