Smith in ‘New York Times’ on New NFL COVID Restrictions
Colorado Springs Managing Partner Steve Smith was quoted Oct. 5 by The New York Times on new measures introduced by the NFL to help combat the spread of COVID among teams, including video surveillance to monitor the wearing of masks while in team facilities or traveling. Protocol violations that cause virus spread will result in additional financial and competitive discipline. Smith, a co-leader of BCLP’s Sports & Entertainment Group, said the league’s approach of tightening restrictions on the spaces it controls is the best move to keep the season on track. “That’s the right decision to make, before you have to do something more drastic,” he said. “If you have double-digit attacks on six, eight teams, you might have to postpone the season and pick back up. That’s what you have to avoid.”
