Three partners from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner have been named to the Nation’s Best 2019 list from Lawyers of Color. Phoenix Partner George Chen, Chicago Partner Jason DeJonker, and Irvine Partner Shalem Massey have been named to the organization’s inaugural Nation’s Best list.
Chen serves on BCLP’s firmwide international Board and is the leader of the Intellectual Property Practice in Phoenix. Chen also has deep involvement with the Arizona Asian American Bar Association and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), including numerous leadership positions and having served as president of both organizations.
DeJonker represents clients throughout the United States in federal, state, bankruptcy and creditor’s rights matters. He has a strong commitment to issues involving diversity, equity and inclusion. At BCLP, he is the co-chair of the firm’s Lawyers of Color Affinity Group and also serves on the firm’s Global Diversity & Inclusion Advisory Board. Outside of BCLP, DeJonker has longstanding involvement with the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD), the Chicago Committee on Minorities in Large Law Firms, and the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA).
Massey has a range of experience representing clients in jury and non-jury trials in complex commercial litigation throughout the United States, Canada, Asia, South America, Central America and Europe. He is leader of the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Team and the Connected and Autonomous Vehicle Team, as well as a co-leader of the Aviation, Aerospace & Defense Team. Massey’s civic involvements include service through the Los Angeles County Pro Bono Adoptions Program, the Orange County Forum Board of Directors, and S.H.E.P.O.W.E.R. – Centers for Abused Women in Southeast Asia.
Lawyers of Color is a nonprofit devoted to promoting diversity in the legal profession. The selection committee for the Nation’s Best list chose attorneys who had noteworthy accomplishments and a commitment to diversity and inclusion in the legal profession.
