Mathew Rea is a partner in the Commercial Disputes and International Arbitration Practice Groups with 30 years' experience of handling complex international business disputes of all types, in court and arbitration. He has extensive experience of successfully taking disputes to trial in the English High Court, as well as in arbitrations administered by the well-known arbitration institutions, London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA) and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Court of Arbitration, amongst others. Mr. Rea is a practising solicitor advocate and has acted as lead advocate in the High Court, and in a number of trials before international arbitration tribunals. In addition, Mr. Rea frequently counsels clients on risk management, and assists them to resolve their disputes through alternative forms of dispute resolution.
Mr. Rea's client work has had a particular focus on the commodities, media and financial services sectors and his experience includes contract and commercial disputes, corporate merger and acquisition disputes, shareholder and joint venture disputes, commercial fraud, professional negligence and breach of trust claims.
Prior to joining Bryan Cave in 2011, Mr. Rea served as the Head of Commercial Litigation in London for Dawsons. He had previously served as Managing Partner of that firm. He is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, a Member of the London Court of International Arbitration, and a Member of the London Solicitors Litigation Association. He speaks fluent French and has written for legal journals and for The Times.
Mathew Rea was included in the 2020 Edition of The Best Lawyers in the United Kingdom for Litigation. He is also recommended for commercial litigation and international arbitration work in The Legal 500 UK 2018, 2017 and 2016.
