  • Specialising in international asset securitisation and asset-backed finance techniques in the banks (FIG), real estate, infrastructure and insurance sectors.
  • Particular focus on long-term capital market financing with rating delinkage and operating businesses.
  • Transactions include vehicle and equipment leasing, to commercial real estate, residential and PRS, consumer finance, infrastructure (schools & hospitals) and alternative solutions for funding gaps.

Representative Experience

  • Consumer Finance - Advised a UK consumer finance lender on an unlisted retail bond issue (mini-bonds) to finance their working capital needs.
  • Social Infrastructure - Advised the Amber consortium on their successful bid to finance five different UK school PFI batches under the innovative Aggregator – Priority Building Schools Programme (IJ’s European Social Infrastructure Deal of the Year 2014).
  • Residential Mortgages and Properties - Acting for an investment consortium made up of funds managed by Blackstone, TPG Special Situations Partners and CarVal Investors on the acquisition and financing of a portfolio of first lien mortgage loans from GE’s UK Home lending business with a face value of £3.8 billion.
  • Vehicle and equipment finance and leasing - Advised the Royal Bank of Scotland plc and JP Morgan on the securitisation of the vehicle leasing business of Leaseplan UK (Bumper 3 Finance plc) and Leaseplan UK on a subsequent securitisation of a new book (Bumper 5 (UK) Finance plc).
  • Commercial Real Estate - Advised Citigroup as arranger on the first rated pan-European securitisation of self-storage properties owned and operated by Shurgard Self Storage SCA and its subsidiaries in Belgium, France, The Netherlands, England & Wales, Sweden and Denmark.
  • Alternative solutions for funding gaps - Advised FHW Dalmore and Investec on the first publicly listed, unwrapped and tranched capital markets product (since the financial crisis) to finance a UK social housing project (FHW Dalmore (Salford Pendleton Housing) plc) – Project Finance magazine’s European Project Bond of the Year 2013. The original third party bank financing proposal was deemed not value-for-money by the local council.
  • Self-storage property securitisation - The first rated pan-European securitisation of self-storage properties owned and operated by Shurgard Self Storage SCA (October 2004)
  • Vehicle rental securitisation - The first rated securitisation in Europe of vehicle rental fleets for Hertz Europe (June 2008)
  • Building society residential mortgage covered bond - The first residential mortgage covered bond programme to be established by a UK building society (Nationwide) (November 2005)
  • Residual value/ operating lease securitisation - The first publicly rated AAA securitisation to securitise residual value of vehicles in a vehicle leasing portfolio (Bumper 3 Finance plc) (April 2009)
