Washington Partner Ben Saul and Associate Ross Handler, members of the firm’s Banking/Fintech Practice Group, authored an article featured in the September edition of inCOMPLIANCE magazine, which is published by the International Compliance Association in the UK. In their article they discuss the ethical implications of AI technology and its use in fintech applications. Saul and Handler highlight two emerging trends: algorithmic bias and the increased opacity in decision making processes, and increased risks to consumer privacy. They discuss the ethical obligations companies, compliance officers and others must observe to ensure organizations both deploy innovative technologies and meet consumer protection expectations.
