BCLP Associate Peter Summerfield authored an op-ed published July 17 by Thomson Reuters Regulatory Intelligence on legal risks, errors and hallucinations, unconscious bias, and practical considerations for financial services employers related to ChatGPT in the workplace. “The swift rise of ChatGPT, the fastest-growing AI tool, has seen different approaches to its regulation, with many countries chasing their tail as the technology evolves at a rapid pace,” wrote Peter. Related to the legal risks of the tool, he wrote, “Since ChatGPT is constantly learning, any information entered by an employee could result in other businesses benefiting from the enhanced/improved knowledge the system gains as a result. It should also be noted that data protection laws apply in the use of ChatGPT, and disclosing personal information could result in breaches of data protection laws.
