BCLP Co-Chair Lisa Mayhew has been appointed as a non-executive director to the board of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), effective Jan. 1. The nine-member board is the regulator of qualified lawyers and law firms in England and Wales, responsible for the protection of consumers and supporting the rule of law and the administration of justice.

The SRA board has oversight of the executive work of the SRA as it regulates the professional conduct of more than 150,000 practicing lawyers and 10,000 firms, including those individuals working in-house at private and public sector organizations. Board members’ responsibilities include setting the strategic direction for the SRA at board meetings, holding the executive to account for its performance, representing the views of a wide range of diverse external stakeholders, and acting as ambassadors for the SRA.

Lisa brings a new dynamic to the SRA, serving as the only current law firm leader on its board—combined with her legal experience as an accomplished lawyer focused on defending employers in large and complex employment disputes.
