Responsible Business

Responsible business is part of our culture. We view our business as part of the wider landscape in which society functions.

We are, and strive to be, a responsible business that supports its clients, people, communities and environment and have adopted a clearly defined, values-led framework that shapes how we think, act, and make decisions.

Our Responsible Business Advisory & Action Board is responsible for driving change and ensuring that the firm’s responsible business commitments and priorities are understood by all members of the firm and are taken into account in firm activities and decisions as appropriate and for identifying opportunities for initiatives to promote responsible business.

We are proud to have achieved a Silver Medal from EcoVadis, the leading global platform for assessing sustainability performance across Environment, Labour & Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. This recognition reflects our strong commitment to responsible business practices and positions us among the top 15% of companies assessed worldwide.

In 2025, our overall score rose to 73/100, up from 58 in 2024 and 48 in 2023, with the most significant improvement in environmental performance (+54%). Pillar scores include Environment (77), Ethics (75), Labour & Human Rights (72), and Sustainable Procurement (70). The rating covers our offices and operations in Australia, Belgium, the UAE, and the UK.

BCLP was ranked 23rd out of 150 law firms in the latest Lamp House Report for the EMEA region. Our score saw a big boost compared to 2024 and this improvement resulted in BCLP being recognised as one of four firms singled out in the report for exceptional progress.

Our Responsible Business Report

Our Responsible Business Report

2025 Responsible Business report

Building on our inaugural report released last year, the 2025 Responsible Business Report presents our first global overview of responsible business efforts and shows how we’re embedding these practices across the firm. Organized around four pillars – Our Approach, Our People, Our Communities, Our Environment – the report highlights our progress, including advances in environmental reporting, sustainable procurement, data integrity and the continued integration of responsible business principles throughout our operations.

2024 Responsible Business report

Our inaugural EMEA Responsible Business report for the year ended 2024 charted our journey from the formation of BCLP in 2018 through to the end of 2024. The report highlighted the progress, milestones, and initiatives that shaped our commitment to responsible business and meaningful impact. More than a reflection of where we’ve been, it layed a foundation for where we’re going.

The four pillars of our strategy

Four pillars guide and enable us to deliver our strategy. We look at each in the context of three broad sets of stakeholders - our clients, our people and our communities.

As a purpose-led international law firm, we are committed to delivering outstanding legal services while also contributing to a better world through responsible business practices. Our actions remain closely aligned with the aspirations of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), guiding our efforts to create positive impact.

We invest in the continuous development of our people, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to navigate evolving risks and opportunities across areas of responsible business.

Our commitment to making a meaningful impact extends beyond our own operations. Clients describe us as great listeners, solution builders and lateral thinkers. That's what it means to be client intelligent. In that spirit, we take our time to understand how we can better support clients and provide quality legal advice that helps them to meet their ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) challenges and serves and advances their own ESG journeys.

This client-focused approach reflects our Core Values to put our clients' interests first and use knowledge and innovation to deliver client solutions.

Our people are at the core of our responsible business practices. That’s why we are committed to fostering an inclusive culture where every individual feels valued, respected, and empowered to thrive and contribute their best.

We share our professional skills on a pro bono basis and commit to community engagement and philanthropic giving that makes a real and lasting difference – we refer to our efforts in this space as Community Impact. This commitment is deeply rooted in our Core Value to make a positive contribution to our communities and societies.

We continue to focus on increasing our pro bono involvement and hours, encouraging all our lawyers to get involved in our offices across the globe.

We are also proud to collaborate with clients on pro bono projects, and wider community engagement initiatives, and to work on pro bono matters that impact the lives of those suffering injustice.

We are committed to adopting environmental initiatives as part of a holistic approach to understanding and reducing our overall environmental impact and ensuring our activities contribute to a more sustainable society, reflecting our Core Values.

Our main UK LLP, which includes our offices in Australia, Belgium, the UAE and the UK, has set near and long-term targets, which have been validated by the Science Based Target initiative.

We are improving the collection and quality of our data to enable more accurate carbon emissions reporting. We are also actively engaging with our suppliers to better understand their environmental journeys, with the aim of partnering with them to reduce our Scope 3 emissions.
