St. Louis Partner Reggie Harris authored an article published April 30 in The St. Louis American with advice to churches considering whether to pursue support from the federal government under COVID-19 relief efforts. As churches have canceled worship services and implemented social distancing to guard against the virus’ spread their normal donation streams have, in many cases, been drastically cut. This may mean layoffs, furloughs and salary reductions for church employees. “That is why churches should be rushing to try and take advantage of any measure that the federal government has implemented to provide emergency financial assistance to entities that employ people and that are adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic,” Harris wrote. “The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act may be one such measure.”
