Biography
Dean Jarmel has over 30 years of product liability, mass tort and commercial litigation experience in state and federal courts throughout the country. He regularly acts as national defense counsel for manufacturers in "bet the company" lawsuits and has litigated hundreds of complex product liability cases, including personal injury suits brought by individuals, national class actions, and third-party reimbursement suits brought by states for medical cost recovery. Dean has defended product liability actions involving a wide variety of products, including tobacco, alcoholic beverages, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, industrial equipment, asbestos, and electronic appliances. Dean has also litigated commercial, antitrust, consumer fraud, contract and FCPA cases. Dean has extensive experience defending toxic tort claims.
Dean’s experience covers every aspect of civil litigation, including the preparation of company executives for deposition and trial testimony; the development of expert witnesses with respect to medical, scientific and consumer behavior issues; taking the depositions of fact and expert witnesses; trial defense; and preparing and arguing numerous appeals in state and federal courts. In one nationally prominent case, Dean acted as lead trial counsel in Rogers v. The American Tobacco Company, a wrongful death action for smoking-related injuries tried to a defense verdict in Indiana state court.
Dean is currently on a national team overseeing cases involving household appliances on behalf of manufacturers, retailers and large insurance carriers.
Prior to joining BCLP, Dean was a litigation partner at two highly respected national firms: Chadbourne & Parke LLP and Lewis Brisbois LLP. Dean also spent five years in London acting as lead international counsel for one of the world’s largest consumer product companies. In this role, he was responsible for the retention, training and supervision of national counsels throughout the world in defense of product liability lawsuits, and for preparing substantive defenses to such suits.
