Biography
Madeline Derango is an associate in the firm’s Class Actions & Mass Torts Practice Group. Her practice focuses on mass tort, complex product liability, and personal injury actions. She is also actively involved in a variety of other litigation matters throughout the firm.
Madeline earned her J.D. from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, where she served as the executive primary editor of the Jurisprudence Review. While in law school, Madeline developed a deep interest in appellate advocacy and legal research and writing. In 2023, she was the champion of the Wiley Rutledge Moot Court Competition and received both an Outstanding Speaker Award and an Outstanding Brief Award. That same school year, Madeline also won the Judge John R. Brown Admiralty Moot Court Competition and received the Best Respondent’s Brief Award. As a result of her oral advocacy skills, Madeline was inducted into the Order of Barristers and received the Judge Amandus Brackman Moot Court Award from WashU Law, the school’s highest honor for oral advocacy. Madeline now gives back to the program by serving as a coach for WashU Law’s Admiralty Moot Court Team.
Outside of moot court, Madeline worked in the Post-Conviction Relief Clinic, where she represented defendants facing the death penalty in appellate matters. She also served as a teaching assistant for Legal Practice I and II. Finally, Madeline continues to participate as a fellow in the Cordell Institute for Policy in Medicine & Law, which explores the growing legal and ethical questions surrounding information privacy and data security. Madeline completed her undergraduate studies at North Central College in Naperville, IL, earning a BA summa cum laude in history and minors in conflict resolution and political science.
