More than 20 years ago, BCLP Partner John W. Amberg began researching and writing an annual compilation of significant developments in California legal ethics from the past year. Today, John is featured on the cover of Los Angeles Lawyer magazine as his annual ethics roundup celebrates two decades of reminders to lawyers about their professional ethics obligations.

His ethics roundup of 2022 cases and ethics opinions outlines instances of misused attorney-client privilege, conflict of interest, malpractice, malicious prosecution and “lawyers behaving badly,” among other problems. It also includes an accompanying test which can earn California lawyers one hour of MCLE legal ethics credit.

John is a member of BCLP’s Commercial Dispute Resolution, Class Action and Product Liability Practices, and is chair of the firmwide Ethics Committee. He has tried and arbitrated cases throughout California and serves as an expert witness on professional liability and legal ethics matters.

He is a former chair of the California State Bar’s Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct and a former chair and current member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Professional Responsibility and Ethics Committee.

Los Angeles Lawyer magazine is a publication of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
