Bartz Joins Federalist Society Discussion of ‘NCAA v. Alston’

Washington Partner Philip Bartz, U.S. leader of the firm’s Antitrust & Competition Practice, will join a virtual panel discussion of NCAA v. Alston. The April 8 panel on this hot-button case currently before the U.S. Supreme Court is hosted by the Washington University in St. Louis School of Law Federalist Society.

At issue in Alston is whether the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit wrongly held that the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) eligibility rules regarding compensation of student-athletes violate federal antitrust law. The Supreme Court’s decision will have a profound effect on the NCAA as well as all joint ventures and consumers.

Bartz focuses his practice at BCLP on antitrust litigation, including the defense of antitrust class actions, complex commercial litigation, defense of federal and state investigations, and antitrust advice. He has counseled Fortune 500 clients regarding antitrust litigation matters related to merger and acquisitions, distribution channel issues and antitrust compliance, and has represented clients in matters involving the federal antitrust enforcement agencies. Bartz is also a member of BCLP’s Sport & Entertainment Disputes Practice.
