BCLP Attorney Speaks at Scalia Roundtable on COVID-19 Economic Stabilization and Recovery
Nov 05, 2020St. Louis Senior Counsel Jerry Hunter was invited by U.S. Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia to speak at a recent roundtable hosted by the St. Louis Regional Chamber of Commerce. The discussion focused on COVID-19 economic stabilization and recovery as well as the impacts of apprenticeship training and workforce development in the region.
Scalia met with local business leaders from Missouri and Illinois while in town to discuss the current strong economic rebound and highlight apprenticeships as a way to build a skilled labor force.
“Business leaders in St. Louis recognize the importance of training a skilled workforce as the country continues to rebound economically,” Scalia said in a press release about the Oct. 29 event. “I spoke to business leaders about their efforts to help workers learn new skills and get back to work quickly. Workforce development, along with fair and reciprocal trade deals like the USMCA and eliminating unneeded regulatory burdens, will help Missouri’s economy continue to power out of the economic disruption of the pandemic.”
Hunter was general counsel of the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) in Washington, D.C., from 1989 until 1993. From 1986 to 1989, he was director of the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, where he was responsible for the department that enforced Missouri’s labor and employment laws and regulations.
At BCLP, Hunter’s practice involves representing management in all phases of labor and employment law, including preventive labor relations and supervisory training, labor arbitrations, handling charges filed with the NLRB, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, U.S. Department of Labor, state and local civil rights agencies, and cases filed in federal and state courts.
