London Partner Daisy Reeves and Global Department Leader for Corporate and Finance Transactions Stephanie Hosler led an online GC roundtable as part of The Lawyer’s recent General Counsel Strategy Summit 2020.

The roundtable, “How did your long-distance relationships with the business work out?” discussed how the GC population has maintained relationships with their businesses. It was attended by in-house counsel from a mix of industries including property, finance, telecoms and security.

Reeves explained that the aim of the roundtable was “to look forward; but whilst reflecting on what teams learnt and what they could do better.” Discussion points included how business core values had come to the fore during the pandemic, the different approaches to leadership, the new 360-degree perspective of colleagues, the blurring of work and home, and what a return to the office would look like.

The discussion was rounded off by Reeves asking how private practice could best help. The group resolved that private practice lawyers should talk to GCs about the tech and software they are using, what they are seeing in the market, and how they are managing similar issues and more holistic issues around inclusion and diversity in the current climate.
