International law firm BCLP has advised Amber Infrastructure Limited on the development and management of a utility scale 49.9MW lithium-ion battery energy storage project which will deploy Megapack, Tesla’s large-scale lithium-ion battery technology.

The transaction is one of the first of its kind in the UK and marks a key development in the transition towards a low carbon electricity network enhancing the utility of the generation of electricity from intermittent sources such as wind and solar PV. Bringing together an experienced infrastructure investor with a well-known battery storage provider, the collaboration will allow access to the various revenue streams available through the intelligent management of electricity including energy trading and generating revenue through ancillary services.

The BCLP team involved was led by Energy, Environment and Infrastructure Partner Kiran Arora and included Kenneth Addly (Associate Director), Simon Buchler (Senior Associate), Will Martin (Associate) and William Rowell (Trainee Solicitor). Partner Matthew Peel led on the Core Real Estate aspects of the deal with Grace Smith (Associate) and Hetty Sharman (Associate).
