International law firm BCLP successfully co-represented the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in a wrongful death matter and after a four-week trial, a Los Angeles jury delivered a complete defense verdict for the NCAA.

The NCAA has a long track record of working to make contact sports safer, notwithstanding their inherent risks, and the jury recognized the NCAA was not negligent in any respect.

BCLP’s defense team was headed by Partner Chris Schmidt, leader of BCLP’s global Class Actions & Mass Torts Practice and the Firm's nationally recognized Sports Litigation Practice. The BCLP team also included Jonathan Potts, Tim Hasken, Dan Ball, Meridyth Andresen, Phil Bartz, LaDawn Burnett, Suzanne Hart, Emma Cormier, Lauren Simon, Cassie Valentine, Kris Fernández, Sara Boucher and Lisa Kirkeby.

The case has been featured numerous times by Law360, with Chris noted or quoted in each. It’s also been covered by ESPN, Front Office Sports, AP News, Courthouse News Service, by CBS News, ABC News, as well as numerous other outlets.
