Partner Amy de La Lama, chair of BCLP’s Global Data Privacy & Security Team, was quoted May 11 by Law.com regarding the current patchwork of U.S. data privacy laws. While some companies have opted to proactively extend data privacy rights to all U.S. citizens, even if their state hasn’t yet passed a privacy law, not every company is there yet. De La Lama noted that among the factors hindering broader corporate adoption are the practical complexities associated with complying with data subject requests and other requirements. “Even if our intention is to offer this to everyone, we want to make sure we can do it before we offer it to everyone, so we don’t make promises we don’t have to yet,” she said. The article summarized key takeaways from the Legal Week virtual panel presentation “Navigating the Data Privacy Minefield,” which included de La Lama and other top data privacy professionals.
