Summary

BCLP Partner Sarah Hartley will present a virtual CLE program “Recent Developments In The Regulation of Transgender Athletes In Sports” on June 7 for the Colorado Bar Association’s Sports & Entertainment Section.

The one-hour program will feature insight into recent developments in the regulation of transgender athletes. Hartley will discuss the challenges associated with defining the women’s category, protective measures historically restricting the participation of transgender women in women’s sport, and how the sports world has seen conflict regarding this issue. She also will discuss the recent introduction of dozens of state legislative measures across the country that would prohibit transgender girls from participating in girls’ youth or scholastic sport.

Hartley practices in the firm’s Commercial Litigation, Antitrust, and Sports & Entertainment Groups. She is the co-chair of the firm’s Higher Education Team. She has worked with sports clients in the Olympic movement, professional sports and collegiate sports, and is regularly consulted on Safe Sport matters, governance and ethical issues. Hartley also serves as an adviser to universities on Title IX compliance, including preparing and reviewing policies and procedures and consulting on the handling of allegations of Title IX violations.
