John Kindschuh discusses new book "Sacred Stroke" with The Webster-Kirkwood Times
Oct 12, 2026John Kindschuh, an attorney in BCLP's Energy, Environment and Infrastructure practice, recently published a book, "Sacred Stroke," which details the story of a stroke he had in 2013 while working at BCLP. In the book, he discussed his recovery and his return to work at the firm.
In 2013, at age 35, John suffered a massive cerebellar stroke that left him unable to walk, talk or swallow. He underwent emergency brain surgery, spent weeks in intensive care and rehabilitation, and then faced years of recovery while raising a young family and rebuilding his independence.
John spoke with Webster-Kirkwood Times about his story, his book and the support he received from his community.
"St. Peter (Church) friends, my neighbors, my law firm, my old church, the Newman Center at WashU where I went to undergrad ... They all came together," John told the Webster-Kirkwood Times. "Some people would mow our yard, rake leaves, take out the trash — do the things that seem mundane to keep a household afloat."
The book describes what happened on the day of John's stroke, how he recovered and his journey in his faith, and includes reflections and stories from more than 100 individuals who were part of John's support network, including some current and former BCLP staff members.
