For more than 20 years, BCLP Partner John W. Amberg has authored the annual article for Los Angeles Lawyer magazine that evaluates significant developments in California legal ethics during the past year. His current ethics roundup in the April issue reviews the duty of care to third parties, conflicts of interest, malpractice, malicious prosecution, and other topical issues, and highlights the California State Bar’s recently issued Practical Guidance for the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in the Practice of Law – cautioning lawyers about their ethical duties regarding the risks and benefits of technology.

Los Angeles Lawyer magazine is a publication of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.

John is a member of BCLP’s Commercial Dispute Resolution, Class Action and Product Liability Practices, and is chair of the firm’s Ethics Committee in the U.S. He has tried and arbitrated cases throughout California and serves as an expert witness on professional liability and legal ethics matters. He is a former chair of the California State Bar’s Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct, a former chair and current member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Professional Responsibility and Ethics Committee, and a member of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California’s Standing Committee on Discipline.
