BCLP Partner Shy Jackson presented to the Edinburgh branch of the Society of Construction Law. Shy’s session covered the New Engineering Contract (NEC) – a suite of collaborative contracts used to manage construction and engineering projects.

Shy addressed some of the key issues that come up in practice when using the NEC contract for infrastructure projects, including the use of the program, the target cost contract mechanism, assessment of compensation events, and the meaning of the mutual trust and cooperation obligation.

Shy’s practice at BCLP covers construction and engineering project advice and disputes. He is a member of the NEC Contract Board, a fellow of the Chartered Institution of Arbitration, a fellow of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors and a Visiting Fellow (Construction Law) at King’s College London.
