Sacher Quoted by ‘The Insurer’ on Equitas and MMI Mesothelioma Dispute Settlement
Jul 14, 2020London Partner Jonathan Sacher was quoted July 9 by The Insurer regarding Berkshire Hathaway-owned Equitas and Municipal Mutual Insurance’s (MMI) long-term dispute over mesothelioma claims.
The UK Supreme Court was due to hear the case on July 8 but the dispute has settled. “The Court of Appeal’s judgment stands and is an important clarification for the market concerning mesothelioma exposures. The law is clear: no spiking is allowed,” said Sacher, who is a co-leader of BCLP’s Insurance Sector. “Last year’s ruling by the Court of Appeal now stands as settled English law. The apparent settlement therefore confirms last year’s victory for reinsurers.”
