St. Louis Partner Christopher Schmidt was quoted May 21 by MarketWatch concerning the growing number of class action lawsuits across America as college students seek tuition refunds for classes forced to move online. “There are a host of individual issues the courts need to resolve,” said Schmidt, a co-leader of BCLP’s Higher Education Team. “Fundamentally, the education has still been delivered and credits to a quality degree are still being earned.” Besides, he added, it can be difficult to determine the quality of instruction before and since the pandemic. “That turns on a fundamental evaluation of what each school, each department, each major was doing to deliver the course work,” he said.
