For more than two decades, BCLP Senior Counsel John W. Amberg has authored the annual ethics roundup for Los Angeles Lawyer magazine, offering an in-depth review of the most significant developments affecting California legal ethics over the past year. His 2025 Ethics Roundup, published in the March/April 2026 issue, examines a wide range of critical topics, including attorney–client relationships, confidentiality, malpractice, AI, malicious prosecution, anti-SLAPP protections, sanctions and professional misconduct. 

Los Angeles Lawyer is published by the Los Angeles County Bar Association. 

John is a member of BCLP’s Commercial Dispute Resolution, Class Action and Product Liability Practices, and is chair of the firm’s Ethics Committee in the U.S. He has tried and arbitrated cases throughout California and serves as an expert witness on professional liability and legal ethics matters. He is a former chair of the California State Bar’s Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct, a former chair and current member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association’s Professional Responsibility and Ethics Committee, and a member of the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California’s Standing Committee on Discipline.
