Colorado Springs Partner Steve Smith was quoted Sept. 4 by the New York Post concerning the bidding process in the sale of the New York Mets baseball team. Former Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez had hoped to buy the Major League Baseball team but lost out to billionaire Steve Cohen. Rodriguez says the bidding process was rigged, and that Cohen was given a sneak peek at the offers in order to have time to raise his own. Smith noted that even if Cohen was given a sneak peek, the Mets are a private company and control the process. “It’s not normal, but things like this do happen,” said Smith, co-leader of BCLP’s Sport & Entertainment Disputes Practice. “In the end, the sellers’ goal is to get the highest price for the team.” Smith’s quotes were also picked up by Bleacher Report.
