“The data is not yet officially confirmed as the final figure netted from compliance checks in the year that ended in April, but Elizabeth Bradley from the firm said it was likely to be a record haul. The 2024-25 data mostly covers compliance checks on tax returns filed in earlier years, but the sharp increase reflects HMRC’s increased focus on the tax gap — the difference between the amount owed, and the amount paid — and on CGT in particular.”
