BCLP Partner Charles Lilley and Senior Associate Richard Dupay contributed the United Arab Emirates chapter to Global Arbitration Review’s (GAR) Middle Eastern and African Arbitration Review 2021 report, first published in May 2021. Lilley and Dupay discuss how recent arbitration reforms have positioned the UAE to weather the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the continued divergence of the UAE’s main institutional arbitration rules and how some of the changes necessitated by the pandemic are likely to stay.
