Biography
Emily Heppermann is an associate in the firm's Business and Commercial Disputes Practice Group. Her practice focuses on complex litigation matters in both state and federal courts and she is involved in a variety of sports-related matters, including doping cases and disputes within the Olympic and Paralympic Movement. She also provides pro bono legal services to re-entry participants who are involved in the Concordance Program.
Prior to joining the firm, Emily served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Stephanie Dawkins Davis in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
Emily earned her J.D. from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, summa cum laude, where she served as an articles editor of the Washington University Law Review. While in law school, Emily developed a deep interest in appellate advocacy and legal research and writing. As a member of Washington University’s National Moot Court Team, Emily won best petitioner’s brief at the William B. Spong, Jr. competition in 2022 and third-best brief at the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition in 2023. She also won the Golden Gavel award for best petitioner’s brief at the Wiley Rutledge Moot Court competition in 2023. As a result of her oral advocacy skills, Emily was inducted into the Order of the Barristers. She now gives back to WashU Law’s moot court program by serving as a coach for WashU Law’s National Moot Court Team.
Outside of moot court, Emily worked in the Intellectual Property Clinic, where she advised clients on various intellectual property matters. She also served as a teaching assistant for Legal Practice I and II and as an assistant coach for the Washington University in St. Louis varsity swim team. Emily completed her undergraduate studies at Washington University in St. Louis, earning a BA, cum laude, in Jewish, Islamic, and Middle Eastern studies and minors in religion and politics and legal studies.
