Biography
Kolten C. Ellis is an associate in the firm’s Business and Commercial Disputes Practice Group. He represents clients in a broad range of civil and complex commercial litigation and maintains an active appellate practice in both state and federal court.
Prior to entering litigation practice, Kolten served as a law clerk to the Honorable Allen C. Winsor on the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida and to the Honorable Robert J. Luck on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. He regularly draws on his clerking experience in federal litigation that raises thorny jurisdictional or procedural issues.
Kolten is a 2021 graduate, magna cum laude, from the Washington University School of Law, where he was as an executive editor of the Washington University Law Review. During law school, Kolten served as a judicial extern to the Honorable Raymond W. Gruender of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit and spent a semester as a student attorney in the Washington University Appellate Clinic, where his team filed a petition for a writ of certiorari in the Supreme Court of the United States as part of a criminal appeal.
In addition commercial litigation, Kolten maintains an active pro bono practice and has filed several amicus briefs addressing constitutional and civil rights claims in federal appellate courts.
