Biography

Oliver is a trusted strategic legal advisor with over two decades of international experience advising on high-stakes, cross-border matters across banking and finance, regulatory compliance, technology, intellectual property and corporate transactions.

A former General Counsel to tier one global investment banks and an international broker-dealer, Oliver brings the rare perspective of having sat on boards and executive committees, delivering strategic counsel at the highest level. His unique ability to translate complex legal frameworks into commercially agile solutions has earned him a reputation as a highly perceptive, solutions-driven practitioner - deeply attuned to client objectives, risk appetites and the dynamics of their industries.

Oliver’s practice is expansive and sophisticated. He advises on complex M&A, corporate restructurings, regulatory investigations and enforcement, IP strategy and technology transactions, and high-value sponsorship, media and licensing arrangements. His deep regional expertise - particularly in the GCC where he has worked for more than 12 years - encompasses regulatory architecture, financial services frameworks, capital markets, and fintech and he has previously held a non-executive directorship at a UAE-based technology company.

He regularly acts for multinational corporations, financial institutions, private equity firms, sports consultants/broadcasters and high-growth technology ventures. Clients value his ability to combine sharp technical insight with a pragmatic and commercially fluent approach, enabling him to function as both a legal advisor and strategic partner.

Oliver’s diverse sectoral experience and board-level experience make him particularly effective in managing matters where law, policy and reputation intersect. His ability to cut through complexity and deliver clarity, especially in multi-jurisdictional environments, makes him a go-to advisor for clients seeking judgment, discretion, and strategic foresight.

His ability to grasp complex issues quickly and offer pragmatic, insightful solutions has been impressive.

EMEA- Data Privacy, Digital and AI Round Up 2024/2025

As expected in the data privacy and digital space, 2024 shaped up to be a year full of guidance, consultations, regulatory focus areas and legislative updates. Artificial Intelligence (AI) remained a hot topic with advertising technology (AdTech) closely following its heels. With the blizzard of global data protection developments continuing unabated in 2024 with no doubt more to come in 2025, it is a good moment to look back at what 2024 held for businesses as well as to consider what 2025 may hold in the EMEA region.
