ABA Recognizes BCLP Pro Bono Team
Jan 14, 2026The American Bar Association recognized the firm’s longtime pro bono efforts for Jimmie “Chris” Duncan after a team of Atlanta attorneys first volunteered with the ABA’s Death Penalty Representation Project in 2016. BCLP has served as Chris’s first-ever pro bono counsel for nearly 10 years and successfully overturned his 1998 first-degree murder conviction in 2025. The team has since also secured Chris’s release on bail pending appeal after 27 years on death row for a crime that never occurred. The ABA wrote, “In a case many other firms would understandably avoid, BCLP attorneys stepped forward to partner with Mwalimu Center for Justice in representing Mr. Duncan and spent the next nine years developing and presenting evidence showing that he did not commit the alleged crime and that the child’s death was accidental. As the evidence accumulated, even Haley’s mother came to believe that Mr. Duncan had been wrongfully convicted.”
The BCLP pro bono team is led by Christian Bromley and Ann Ferebee, as well as former BCLP senior partner, Scott Greene. The team continues to represent Mr. Duncan as the State of Louisiana challenges last year’s decision and seeks to reinstate his conviction. BCLP represents Mr. Duncan with attorneys at the Mwalimu Center for Justice and the Innocence Project.
