Partner Alexis Early recently shared her insights with Bloomberg Law on the status of tariff refunds and what clients should do in the meantime.

Alexis notes that with the amount of data and the ability to assess it more efficiently, US Customs and Border Patrol “is bound to find omissions or negligence—especially from less sophisticated importers of record.”

She said she has seen an uptick in importers receiving Customs Form 28, a request for more information that can signal the start of an inquiry, and that she can see companies deciding that the cost and administrative headache of gathering information to submit a refund request outweighs the benefit of receiving the refund.
