Christian Bromley discusses wrongful conviction case with ProPublica

Christian Bromley, a BCLP partner and co-lead of the firm’s Environmental & Toxic Tort practice, recently spoke with ProPublica about the case of the firm’s longtime pro bono client, Jimmie “Chris” Duncan.

On June 29, 2026, the Louisiana Supreme Court issued a lengthy opinion affirming the 2025 ruling from Louisiana’s Fourth Judicial District Court vacating Mr. Duncan’s 1998 conviction and death sentence for an alleged 1993 murder that never occurred. 

In the article, Christian reflects on the case and the video evidence that provided the original foundation for BCLP’s decade-long commitment to Mr. Duncan, and ultimately his long-awaited release last year. Christian recalled being "horrified and surprised that the video had been available at that point for over 20 years and just essentially ignored and deemed not relevant.”

The article also highlights the BCLP lawyers who "filed a series of discovery requests that unearthed a trove of evidence pointing to Duncan’s innocence." Christian, together with recently retired Atlanta Partner Scott Greene and Counsel Ann Ferebee, among countless other BCLP lawyers, have represented Mr. Duncan since 2016 after Christian learned of the case through a meeting hosted by the ABA’s Death Penalty Representation Project. Over the past decade, the BCLP team—Mr. Duncan’s first-ever pro bono lawyers—has collectively devoted more than 10,000 pro bono hours to Mr. Duncan’s post-conviction defense, culminating in the landmark victory.
