A panel of top arbitration specialists gathered recently in Paris to discuss the evolution of the International Bar Association (IBA) rules and their practical implications. This Feb. 19 event was a combined initiative of BCLP’s Paris and London offices.

The panel addressed a number of topics, including the tools offered by the IBA rules to handle arbitration efficiently, such as those related to document production and evidential hearings, as well as competing initiatives like the Prague Rules.

Alexis Mourre, president of the ICC Court of International Arbitration, acted as moderator with panelists including BCLP London Partners Carol Mulcahy and Roman Khodykin; former Partner and Arbitrator Nicholas Fletcher QC; Philippe Pinsolle, head of international arbitration for continental Europe with Quinn Emanuel LLP in Paris; and Diana Paraguacuto-Mahéo, partner with Foley Hoag LLP in Paris.

This was also an occasion for Mulcahy and Khodykin to present their book on the IBA rules, A Guide to the IBA Rules on the Taking of Evidence in International Arbitration (Oxford University Press, 2019), co-authored with Fletcher.

More than 150 lawyers attended this event, held in the famed library of the Paris Bar in the Paris courthouse and organized by BCLP Paris Partners Kathie Claret and Constantin Achillas and Associate François-Xavier Mirza.
