Biography

Alex's practice focuses on intellectual property litigation and counseling. He advises clients on intellectual property issues in a wide range of industries including computer hardware and software, mobile phone technologies, internet-based technologies, computer networks, communication systems, electronics, financial services, biometric technologies, mechanical devices, gaming, and sports equipment.

A significant portion of Alex's practice is devoted to assisting clients with a variety of patent matters including post-grant proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, patent litigation, patent prosecution, the development and enforcement of patent portfolios, and opinion studies concerning patent invalidity, infringement and enforcement, and freedom-to-operate. He has been involved in more than 20 ex parte reexaminations (both offensive and defensive) and has defended clients in 10 Inter Partes review proceedings.

Alex also spends a portion of his practice on transactional intellectual property matters. He has conducted due diligence studies and has prepared and negotiated a variety of intellectual property agreements, including assignment agreements, licensing agreements, work-for-hire agreements, and Web-related agreements, in connection with a number of corporate transactions.

He has also assisted clients with trademark and copyright clearance, prosecution and enforcement matters, including copyright litigations and trademark oppositions before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, providing opinions on trademark availability, filing and prosecuting trademark applications, handling domain name disputes, and evaluating possible infringement of trademarks and copyrights.

Alex attended Brown University where he obtained a bachelor's in both computer science, focusing on object-oriented systems architecture, and in business economics.
