Biography

Édouard Bruc is a litigator whose practice focuses on competition disputes, regulatory investigations, and complex commercial litigation. Dual-qualified as a Solicitor of England and Wales and Avocat à la Cour in Paris, he has extensive experience advising clients across both common law and civil law jurisdictions.

Édouard represents clients in class actions, competition damages claims, cartels investigations, abuse of dominance matters, and other contentious proceedings. His practice covers a broad range of industries, including pharmaceutical, transport, batteries, digital, telecommunications, electricity and gas, and financial services. He has acted in proceedings before various national regulatory authorities (CMA and European Commission) and arbitral tribunals, as well as before the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal, the Court of Justice of the European Union, and the European Court of Human Rights.

Recently, Édouard had the opportunity to help a client secure the first judicially-approved class action settlement in the UK, including a reversion mechanism. Following the Trucks cartel decision, he has assisted clients from various jurisdictions in the context of an EU-wide billion-euro class action before the Amsterdam Court. On the institutional side, he has been involved in large-scale banking litigation before the EU Courts (approximately 60 cases). In addition, he has significant litigation experience in subsidies/State aid cases (COVID-19, etc.) and is familiar with international tax rules (OECD, treaties, etc.).  He has also worked on some investment and commercial arbitrations.

Édouard maintains an active pro bono practice focused on freedom of expression, press freedom, privacy, and surveillance-related issues. In that capacity, he has contributed to several submissions before the European Court of Human Rights.

Academically, he has a keen interest in class actions, intellectual property rights, international arbitration, and due process issues in antitrust enforcement. He has published extensively in leading journals, including the Journal of International Arbitration, European Competition Journal, Oxford Journal of European Competition Law & Practice, European State Aid Law Quarterly, Revue des affaires européennes, and others. His work has been recognised through several distinctions, including the 2018 CISAC Academic Research Competition Award, first place in the 2018 Lamy Antitrust Moot Competition, and the Concurrences Antitrust Writing Awards in 2023 and 2026.
